Marco Melandri quits Aprilia MotoGP Team

Marco Melandri will be permanently be replaced by Michael Laverty. Laverty’s first race will be this weekend at Sachsenring, in Germany.

There is no surprise that Melandri won’t ride for Aprilia anymore. The ex-WSBK pilot managed to get only bad results in the first part of the 2015 MotoGP season with the Aprilia MotoGP prototype. On the other hand Alvaro Bautista – his teammate – had a way better evolution.

Melandri will be replaced by Michael Laverty, who will race this weekend at Sachsenring, in Germany, and will be a part of the Aprilia MotoGP Team for the rest of the season.

“It’s been a manic 36hrs since receiving the call to race @MotoGP this weekend for Aprilia Official. Cool to line up alongside Eugene Laverty. I’m 100% committed to my Tyco BMW ride in BSB and I’m very grateful to both the team and BMW Motorrad for their understanding“, wrote Michael Laverty on Facebook.
